Low-Cost Microchip Clinic Every Monday at Culver City and Lakewood
Michelson Found Animals Adopt & Shop offers pet microchipping in Los Angeles, specifically Culver City and Lakewood, as well as a free-for-life microchip registry. Please call or visit one of our Adopt & Shop stores for more information and to set up an appointment. To get your pet microchipped, find the store closest to you here. And the only requirement is that you must have updated proof that your pet has the rabies vaccine.
A microchip is a small device – about the size of a grain of rice – implanted beneath your pet’s skin. It contains a unique identification number that links to your contact information in a registry. This of this number as similar to a social security number. When collars are damaged or lost, the microchip is your pet’s only permanent identification. If detected by a pet professional with a scanner, they can look up your pet’s identification number and trace your pet back to you pronto.
Nope! A microchip is not GPS. You can’t track your animal with a microchip. Here’s how it works: if your pet gets lost and is found, a shelter worker or vet will scan the pet. If their scanner detects a microchip it will show them your pet’s identification number. They can then look up that number online. It will tell them what company that pet’s microchip is registered with. Then, they can contact that company to get your contact information and contact you. If your pet is registered at found.org, this process happens with a few clicks, instead of a long process. You can learn more about how our Found Pet Alert® System works here.
A microchip is only effective if it is registered. Otherwise, you and your pet can’t be reunited because your pet’s microchip isn’t connected to your contact info. You can register your microchip for free at our registry, Found.org. Our registry is free for the life of your pet. It’s free to register, free to use and free to update. Remember to update your contact information every time you switch addresses or phone numbers!
